How our Hunger Relief model works: we fund and coordinate, a licensed kitchen cooks

Hunger Relief is the first initiative Nischint Sewa Foundation is launching. The model is deliberately simple and deliberately bounded: the Foundation funds and coordinates, and a licensed, FSSAI-compliant partner community kitchen prepares and serves the food.

We make this split explicit because it matters. Food service is a food-safety-regulated activity. It requires FSSAI registration or licensing, a municipal trade licence, and hygiene protocols. An established community kitchen already holds these. The Foundation has not built — and does not intend to build — the compliance capacity to run a kitchen itself. So it doesn’t.

What the Foundation does is provide the funding and coordination that lets a trusted partner kitchen serve free lunch and dinner, every day, at a single fixed pilot location in Mumbai. Once a formal agreement is signed, we will publish the details — and only then will we name the partner.

This “fund and coordinate, never operate” pattern is the same one we use for Elder Welfare, Survivor Support, and Child Welfare. It keeps regulated, specialised work in the hands of organisations licensed to do it, while the Foundation does what it does best: direct resources where they are needed and hold the whole thing to account.
